Diagnostics

What are Diagnostics?

Automobile diagnostic tests are performed by connecting special software to your vehicle and scanning built-in sensors, processors, and microchips. These tests help detect any issues a vehicle may be experiencing within its engine, sensors, transmission, and other components. Regular diagnostics can also help uncover potential problems before they get worse.

Most visits to Shade Tree Auto are routine maintenance and scheduled, but occasionally your vehicle will have a rattle, squeak, or dashboard warning light that wasn’t there before. Cars that come in for these uncertain issues usually need a quick appointment, or worse, a tow to the shop. We pride ourselves on the accuracy of our estimates, but in order to do that, we need to figure out what is causing the problem on your vehicle.

Shade Tree Auto’s Diagnostic Process

Diagnostics can be a wide range of services. Our technicians may need to trace down wiring, look up specifications for individual systems, or use tools needed to read the information in one of many onboard computers in your car. After investigating the issue with your vehicle, we will verify the problem and determine what it will take to properly fix it. Before we make any recommendations, we also inspect the rest of the vehicle so you have a complete picture of what you need before making any critical decisions..

In order for our technicians to spend the amount of time needed, there is a diagnostic charge. The cost can vary, but we quote that to you at the beginning of your visit so you aren’t surprised with any charges. Afterward, each repair we recommend will be estimated before you authorize any additional work.
